Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the app.
No accounts, no ads, no tracking. Going Dutch has no sign-up, no analytics and no advertising. We don't sell or share your information, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
Trips on your iPhone. Trips, expenses and receipt photos are stored on your iPhone. A trip you don't share never leaves it.
Shared trips. When you invite friends to a trip, that trip (its name, dates, people's names and home currencies, optional UPI IDs, expenses, amounts, splits and payments) is stored on Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore, in the European Union) so everyone on the trip sees the same thing. Your iPhone signs in to Firebase anonymously: no name, email or phone number is used. Anyone with the trip's invite link can open that trip, so only send it to people on the trip. Receipt photos and trip cover photos are never uploaded; they stay on the phone that took them.
Receipts. Receipt photos are read on your iPhone using Apple's on-device text recognition and, on supported iPhones, Apple's on-device language model. Photos are not sent to us or to any third party.
Exchange rates. The app downloads daily exchange rates from api.frankfurter.dev (European Central Bank data) and, for currencies the ECB doesn't cover, open.er-api.com (ExchangeRate-API). These requests contain only the currency codes needed, not information about you.
Payments. "Pay with UPI" opens your own UPI app with the amount filled in. Going Dutch never sees or handles your payment details.
Notifications. If you allow them, notifications about friends' expenses are created on your iPhone from the shared trip.
Deleting your data. Delete a trip in the app (Trip settings → Delete trip): it's removed from your iPhone and, for a trip you shared, from everyone's phones, and marked deleted on the server. Leaving a friend's trip removes it from your phone only. To have a shared trip's data erased from the server completely, email us the trip name and we'll delete it.
Children. The app is not directed at children under 13.
